BMW India registers 14 per cent growth in January-July sales



BMW has surprised the auto industry by posting a 14% growth in sales in the January-July period in 2009. The car maker sold a total of 2,008 units in the given period, as against 1,763 units sold in the same period in 2008. The President BMW India, Peter Kronschnabl , told media persons that the company is number one in the luxury car market in the first seven months of 2009, and expects to maintain its top position in the future. He said he was confident of BMW India crossing the 3,000 unit sales mark in the current year 2009. BMW India will soon be expanding its product portfolio by launching the Z4, a two-seater roadster, close to Diwali this year. The niche model will be priced at Rs 50-60 lakh and the company hopes to sell 40 units of it every year, said by Kronschnabl. BMW is also expanding its dealer network in India. It currently has 14 dealerships in the country.With that, another eight in tier II cities are ready to join by the end of 2010.
